Learn about how Search works in our Knowledge Portal with details about our search functionality and features.

Knowledge Portal Search Workflow

  1. User searches for a keyword/keywords.

  2. Relevant search suggestions are provided.

  3. Filters are applied if required, and search preferences are set if required.

  4. Query sent to search engine with filters and preferences.

  5. The search engine processes the query to find relevant results by matching:

    1. Topic title

    2. Topic body

    3. Keywords

    4. Short description

    5. Publication type

  6. The engine looks for exact matches and approximate word matches (e.g., “activate” vs. “activation”).

  7. Boosts scoring on:

    1. Title and body (highest priority)

    2. More significant terms like product name get higher scores.

  8. The search engine sums the scores and ranks results.

Additional Information

  • Keyword Optimization: Ensuring content includes relevant search keywords in topic titles to enhance discoverability.

  • Search autocomplete feature: Displays suggestions as users type, based on popular search results.

How the Search Functionality Works

  • Punctuation and capital letters are ignored.

  • Special characters like underscores (_) are removed.

  • Known synonyms are applied.

  • The most relevant topics are listed first in search results.

  • Matches in guide titles are ranked higher.

  • Use double quotes to find an exact match ("specific phrase").

  • The most relevant topics (based on weighting and matching to search terms) are listed first in search results.

  • A match on the entire phrase you typed.

  • A match on part of the phrase you typed.

  • A match on ALL of the terms in the phrase you typed.

  • A match on ANY of the terms in the phrase you typed.

Note:

Matches in titles are always highly ranked.
