Understanding the cost model for Everpure Cloud Azure Native helps you manage your expenses from the service.
Calculation of capacity consumption
Azure Native is billed on real consumed storage capacity. Consumed capacity is billed monthly based on a set cost per consumed GiB per hour. Consumption is measured hourly.
Minimal billed capacity consumption is 30 TiB per a single Storage Pool resource. To optimize costs associated with minimal consumed capacity, consider consolidating your data into a single storage pool to meet the minimum billed capacity of 30 TiB, rather than maintaining two separate storage pools with 15 TiB each.
Data Reduction Rate
Persisted data in Everpure Cloud service are subject to deduplication and compression features in background. The effectiveness of deduplication is quantified by the Data Reduction Rate (DRR). This metric indicates the extent of data reduction achieved - for example, a DRR of 4:1 signifies that 4 TiB of original data has been successfully reduced to 1 TiB, without any loss of unique information.
This metric is calculated as the average Data Reduction Rate (avg. DRR) across all data stored within a single Storage Pool - it's a property of Storage Pool. The avg. DRR value gets recalculated hourly.
Consumed Capacity Adjustment in Storage Pool
The costs for consumed capacity in a Storage Pool are calculated based on the actual amount of persisted data - Effective Used Capacity .
Consumed capacity in a Storage Pool may be recalculated when storing non-compressible data. This scenario is most likely to occur when storing encrypted or pre-compressed data, where deduplication and compression are not achievable.
If a recalculation is necessary for your Storage Pool, your invoice will include a new row and a warning alert will be displayed in the Storage Pool resource details:
To avoid any capacity adjustments, ensure your data is encrypted using the Storage Pool encryption, rather than being encrypted before entering the Storage Pool.
Allocated performance
Everpure Cloud is billed based on the total allocated performance (throughput/IOPS) at the Storage Pool resource level. Allocated performance is billed hourly.
Minimal allocated performance is 800 MB/s throughput (with corresponding IOPS) per Storage Pool.
To optimize costs related to allocated performance, regularly monitor the utilization of your Storage Pool. If your workload does not fully utilize the allocated performance, consider lowering the allocated performance to reduce costs.
Networking costs
To achieve optimal performance and avoid indirect costs when using the Everpure Cloud service with Azure VMware Solution, ensure that the data path does not involve virtual network peering. Data transferred through VNet peering incurs additional charges.
