VMware’s vSphere Virtual Volume (vVol) paradigm, introduced in vSphere version 6.0, is a storage technology that provides policy-based, granular storage configuration and control of virtual machines (VMs). Through API-based interaction with an underlying array, VMware administrators can maintain storage configuration compliance using only native VMware interfaces.

Version 5.0.0 of Purity//FA software introduced support for FlashArray-based vSphere Virtual Volumes (vVols). The accompanying FlashArray Plugin for the vSphere Web Client (the Plugin) makes it possible to create, manage, and use vVols that are based on FlashArray volumes from within the Web Client. This report describes the architecture, implementation, and best practices for using FlashArray-based vVols.
