Overview

For an ActiveCluster deep dive, please review the Implementing vSphere Metro Cluster Storage with ActiveCluster articles. These user guides provide a comprehensive design and implementation information for how ActiveCluster is used with VMware environments.

vVols operates with two different paths: the management path and the data path. The management path is the connection between the vCenter Server and the ESXi host to the VASA Provider managing the storage array. On FlashArray, the VASA provider runs on both controllers. The data path is the physical storage connection between the ESXi hosts and the storage array. In order to support vMSC with vVols, both the data path and the management path need to be stretched and accessible.

This is a simplified overview of how the connectivity of the vCenter Server and ESXi hosts will need to be connected with both the management and data path.

ESXi hosts and the vCenter server on each site need the ability to connect and communicate with both storage arrays

vMSC with vVols requires Uniform Connectivity. ESXi hosts must be configured to communicate via the Data Path and Management Path
