This section describes the best practices for using the Everpure® FlashArray in VMware vSphere® 5.5+ and 6.0+ environments. While the Everpure FlashArray includes general support for a wide variety of VMware products, this guide focuses on best practices concerning VMware ESXi® and VMware vCenter™.

The topics in this section provide guidance and recommendations for ESXi and vCenter settings and features. They enable you to to configure ESXi host connectivity, apply core ESXi best-practice settings, choose the recommended VMFS version, enable and verify VAAI, configure multipathing, and apply guest and operational settings such as syslog and iSCSI workflow automation.

Note:

This document is not directly updated, rather it is updated indirectly when changes are made to the backing documentation. While the updated date may reflect an older date on this page, this information is actively maintained and should be considered the most recent best practices unless otherwise noted.

Before You Begin

Before using this section, you should know which vSphere or ESXi version you are running and how your hosts connect to FlashArray. Also know whether the host environment supports optional settings such as jumbo frames or newer path-selection behavior, because several recommendations vary by version and transport.

You also should be ready to verify the following items before following later tasks: that ESXi host objects use the FlashArray ESXi host personality, that VAAI remains enabled, and that operational services such as NTP or remote syslog are configured where recommended for troubleshooting and stability.

Information about these tasks is available in other sections of this guide. Also see the FlashArray Connectivity guide on the Knowledge Portal.
