NVRAM is an important core component that provides high speed performance for write operations. Developers evaluated both gp2 and io1. Io1 was eventually selected due to its low latency and the ability to de-couple IOPs limits from capacity size, which is a major limitation of gp2. Similar to compute instances, Pure developers are always evaluating new resources released by AWS. As of release version 6.1.6, Everpure Cloud Dedicated instances uses io2 for NVRAM, which provides higher durability and performance scale.
